[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The 40th anniversary Korean tour of the musical 'Cats' successfully concluded its encore performance in Seoul on the 28th of last month and has now confirmed a tour across six cities following Busan.
Production company S&Co announced on the 2nd that after performing in Busan from the 5th of this month until April 4th, the musical will tour six cities including Cheonan, Jeonju, Ulsan, Cheongju, Seongnam, and Changwon. This marks the first large-scale original Korean tour in about a year amid the absence of musical tours due to COVID-19.
The Cats 40th anniversary tour, which will have short weekend performances spanning April and May, is scheduled to be held in Cheonan (April 9-11 at Cheonan Arts Center Grand Theater), Jeonju (April 16-18 at Korean Sound Culture Hall Moak Hall), Ulsan (date to be announced), Cheongju (April 30-May 2 at Cheongju Arts Center Grand Theater), Seongnam (date to be announced), and Changwon (date to be announced). Detailed information for Ulsan, Seongnam, and Changwon will be announced later.
Cats is renowned for its stage art created with unique imagination based on the poems of the world-famous literary figure T.S. Eliot, dynamic yet beautiful choreography, and the beautiful music of maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber, including the timeless hit 'Memory.' It has swept prestigious global awards such as the Olivier Award, Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Grammy Award. The profound messages about life conveyed through the diverse lives of the Jellicle cats continue to deliver an enduring emotional impact.
Meanwhile, the Busan performance, which will mark the official start of the regional tour, is set to open on the 5th, with the final tickets going on sale at 2 p.m. on the 3rd.
