[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The police released a video showing the pursuit and capture of a vehicle that fled by driving on the sidewalk to evade a drunk driving checkpoint.

On the morning of the 2nd, the Gwangju Police Agency posted a video titled "Vehicle Driving on the Sidewalk, The End After 360 Seconds" on the social networking service (SNS) Facebook.

According to the video, the drunk driving vehicle escape incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on the 9th of last month on a road in Yongbong-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.

The video clearly shows a black sedan suddenly appearing and passing over the sidewalk to avoid the drunk driving checkpoint.

The police officer in charge of the checkpoint immediately ran toward the fleeing vehicle but was no match.

Afterwards, a dangerous chase between the patrol car and the fleeing vehicle lasted for six minutes.

During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle was caught on video performing stunt driving in narrow alleys, speeding, and ignoring traffic signals.

The fleeing vehicle continued to roam the roads calmly, ignoring multiple stop requests from the police officers.

The fleeing vehicle, dodging the patrol car here and there, was eventually captured on the shoulder of the road through cooperation between patrol cars, and the driver, Mr. A, was caught after six minutes of pursuit.

The driver's blood alcohol concentration was reported to be at the license cancellation level (0.08%).

It was confirmed that Mr. A had no prior convictions of the same kind.

The Buk-gu Police Station in Gwangju sent Mr. A to the prosecution on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.

Under the Road Traffic Act, if caught driving under the influence two or more times, one may face imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
