S-OIL Donates Support Funds to Migrant Women Victims of Domestic Violence

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] S-OIL celebrated International Women's Day by donating 70 million KRW to the Korea Migrant Women’s Human Rights Center on the 2nd at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, to support migrant women victims of domestic violence. The donation ceremony was held with minimal attendees and in compliance with quarantine guidelines due to the COVID-19 situation.

Founded in 2001, the Korea Migrant Women’s Human Rights Center is a non-profit organization that provides counseling, education, and psychological therapy for migrant women residing in Korea. It also operates shelters for migrant women and their children who have suffered domestic violence. The donation from S-OIL will be used to provide daily necessities to migrant women leaving the shelters to help them become self-reliant, and to support professional counseling activities by migrant women translators and interpreters who assist with legal consultations and social reintegration.

S-OIL began supporting migrant women’s human rights issues in 2013, when social interest and support were scarce, becoming the first private company to do so, and has donated a total of 450 million KRW through last year. S-OIL stated, "An environment where the cultures and values of migrant women are respected and they can live happily as members of the local community must be created," adding, "S-OIL will continue to be a reliable supporter."
