LGD's Four Major Safety Management Innovations: "Unlimited Investment and Workforce Deployment"

Establishment of Chief Safety Executive Officer (CSEO)... Granting Safety Authority Equivalent to CEO Level

[Asia Economy Reporter Woo Su-yeon] LG Display, which experienced a chemical substance leak accident at its Paju plant earlier this year, has established the '4 Major Safety Management Innovation Measures' to eradicate safety accidents.

On the 2nd, LG Display announced innovation measures for safety management, focusing on ▲ thorough safety inspections across all plants ▲ internalization of major hazardous tasks ▲ fostering safety and environmental experts and strengthening support for partner companies ▲ enhancing the authority and capabilities of the safety organization.

These measures were created in response to the fatal accident caused by the chemical leak at the Paju plant earlier this year. Immediately after the accident, LG Display completely halted hazardous tasks involving gas and chemicals and conducted special inspections, resuming work only when sufficient safety was ensured.

LGD's Four Major Safety Management Innovations: "Unlimited Investment and Workforce Deployment" LG Display Paju Plant

First, LG Display will conduct high-intensity, thorough safety inspections across all plants. While previous safety inspections focused on improving areas adjacent to accident sites, this inspection will strengthen efforts by re-examining safety across all plant areas from the ground up without constraints on time or resources and by preparing comprehensive improvement plans.

In particular, LG Display plans to collaborate with world-class specialized institutions, partner companies, and LG Display workers to derive specific and practical improvement measures. Management plans for risk factors will be executed thoroughly and promptly, with unlimited investment and personnel allocated as necessary.

Secondly, LG Display will promote the 'internalization of major hazardous tasks' to create workplaces where both LG Display and partner company workers can work safely. An operational system that thoroughly manages and controls risk factors will be established, and internalization will proceed through sufficient consultation and cooperation with the relevant partner companies. Additionally, LG Display will foster safety and environmental experts with experience and capabilities to ensure thorough safety management on-site. Plans include nurturing experts in collaboration with external institutions such as universities and research institutes.

Investment to strengthen the safety capabilities of partner companies will also be actively supported. LG Display plans to expand the existing win-win cooperation fund to support partner companies in expanding safety facilities and securing related personnel, thereby focusing on safety management at partner company sites. For small and medium-sized partner companies that find it difficult to establish systematic management systems, LG Display will also provide institutional support by expanding access to its enhanced specialized training programs.

Lastly, LG Display will establish the Chief Safety and Environmental Officer (CSEO) position and significantly expand the authority, capabilities, and personnel size of the safety organization. The safety organization will be empowered to exercise CEO-level safety-related authority, such as halting relevant operations or suspending production facilities when necessary, and will serve as the company-wide control tower. The safety organization at production sites, which are risk contact points, will also be expanded to ensure the management system operates flawlessly.

Jung Ho-young, President of LG Display, emphasized, "No business achievement is ever more important than life and safety," adding, "We will make the lives and safety of our employees and partner company workers an essential premise and the highest priority in our management activities."
