[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] System semiconductor company CoAsia announced on the 2nd that it will supply lighting LEDs applied to Hyundai Motor Company's first dedicated electric vehicle brand model, the ‘Ioniq 5’, through its LED division (Itswell).
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the ‘Ioniq 5’, the first model to apply its self-developed electric vehicle dedicated platform ‘E-GMP’, on the 23rd of last month. It plans to sequentially launch the vehicle starting with Europe at the end of next month, followed by the Korean and U.S. markets. The company aims for global sales of 70,000 units this year and 100,000 units next year.
In particular, the Ioniq 5, as the first vehicle applying ‘E-GMP’, maximized the utilization of interior space through optimized spatial design. Additionally, the theme of ‘Living Space’ for all occupants was added, creating a differentiated interior design unique to dedicated electric vehicles. The interior also applied eco-friendly materials and manufacturing methods in line with the brand image.
A company official said, “With the launch of the Ioniq 5, the era of eco-friendly future mobility has officially begun,” adding, “The evolution toward electric and autonomous vehicles shifts the driver’s focus from outside to inside the vehicle, leading to the evolution of interior lighting that considers the emotions and convenience of drivers and passengers.”
He continued, “By supplying lighting LEDs for the Ioniq 5, we have proven the global competitiveness of our LED business,” and “We have secured future growth engines in the electric vehicle market, which is expected to reach 10 million units by 2025.”
Meanwhile, CoAsia is the only domestic company that is an official member of ISELED (Global Smart LED Alliance). Together with U.S. semiconductor company Microchip Technology, it has developed communication-type LED solutions such as eco-friendly electric vehicle charging port lighting and interior lighting solutions.
