... Gu Residents' Participatory Budget Committee also newly formed
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is accepting proposals for the 2022 Resident Participatory Budget projects until March 23.
Eligible participants are Yongsan-gu residents and employees of businesses located in Yongsan-gu. Proposal topics include projects aimed at resolving inconveniences experienced in daily life, as well as projects for regional development such as resident convenience, safety, culture, and welfare.
The scale of next year's resident participatory budget is 2 billion KRW (1.2 billion KRW for general district projects, 800 million KRW for neighborhood projects). For general district projects, up to 300 million KRW per project (70 million KRW for event-type projects) can be allocated, and for neighborhood projects, up to 30 million KRW per project can be allocated.
Those wishing to participate can submit proposals via the district website (Budget Resident Participation section), by visiting the Planning and Budget Division, by email (k104023@yongsan.go.kr), or by mail.

The district will finalize next year's projects through stages including project review (May), Resident Participatory Budget Committee evaluation (June to July), and a residents' general assembly (August). The final budget, including the resident participatory budget, is expected to be confirmed in December.
The district has also newly organized the Resident Participatory Budget Committee. Forty-eight members are active across four subcommittees: Administrative Economy, Health and Welfare, Urban Parks, and Safety and Construction. Their term lasts until February next year.
From March to October, the district will hold budget schools for these committee members and general residents to enhance their expertise.
This year, the district's resident participatory budget projects total 39 (23 general district projects and 16 neighborhood projects). Last year, the district received 112 resident proposals and finalized the details through subcommittee reviews and resident voting (M-Voting).
Major projects include installation of speed bumps on steep slopes, improvement of alley lighting, installation of alley stairs, maintenance of children's playgrounds, replacement of lockers at the Culture and Sports Center, improvement of aging underpasses, installation of crossing markers at Ichon Station, and replacement of streetlights.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "We operate the resident participatory budget system to ensure transparent financial management and fair resource allocation," and added, "We ask for residents' active interest and participation."
