[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Approximately 30 Myanmar citizens have died and more than 1,130 have been arrested over the past month in connection with the Myanmar military coup.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), a Myanmar civil society organization, reported that about 30 people died from gunfire and attacks by the military and police the previous day. This figure appears to reflect at least 18 deaths during the second general strike protests held across Myanmar on the same day. However, as there are reports on social media claiming 26 deaths occurred just the previous day, the death toll may rise further.

AAPP also stated that 1,132 people have been arrested. Of these, 299 have been released, and 833 remain in detention, according to AAPP.

However, AAPP noted that only 270 people were included in the arrest list from the previous day, but it estimates that about 1,000 people have been arrested nationwide in Myanmar. Accordingly, the number of arrested citizens is expected to surge.

The Myanmar military seized power through a coup on the 1st of this month, citing the civilian government's failure to investigate serious fraud in last November's general election.
