[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Ahn Cheol-soo, the preliminary candidate of the People’s Party running in the Seoul mayoral by-election, who was selected as the candidate for the third-zone unification primary, expressed hope that a 'beautiful unification' agreement would be reached with the People Power Party.

On the 1st, Ahn stated on his social media service (SNS) Facebook, "I will meet as soon as the People Power Party candidate is selected." The People Power Party candidate is scheduled to be decided on the 4th.

Ahn emphasized, "Now, we must select the final opposition unified candidate who can win by reflecting the will of the citizens," and added, "The process for selecting the final candidate should be carried out swiftly."

He continued, "Candidates and parties entering the final runoff must be careful not to take any actions that would pour cold water on the passionate desire of the people hoping for a regime change during the unification process," and added, "We must also block the ruling party’s maneuvers to disrupt and discredit the unification."

Ahn also said he would meet immediately once the People Power Party candidate is selected. He addressed the People Power Party, saying, "We declare that we are partners and collaborators who compete but also help and support each other for regime change, and I hope an agreement on a beautiful unification method that the public, candidates, and supporters all empathize with will be reached promptly," explaining, "Only then can the entire opposition support the final candidate wholeheartedly, regardless of who is selected."

Furthermore, Ahn said, "No matter who becomes the candidate, if we smoothly achieve opposition unification to punish the forces that have toyed with Seoul’s administration and ruined national governance and return Seoul to the citizens, we will surely win on April 7."

Meanwhile, at 10 a.m. on the same day, Ahn’s campaign and independent preliminary candidate Geum Tae-seop’s campaign announced at the National Assembly that Ahn won the public opinion poll conducted among general citizens for the unification of the two candidates.

Ahn expressed, "I extend my thanks and consolation to Candidate Geum, who fought hard until the end." Candidate Geum said, "I sincerely congratulate the victorious Candidate Ahn."
