[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] On the 28th, the third day of COVID-19 vaccination, 765 people nationwide received the vaccine in one day. Accordingly, the cumulative number of vaccinated people reached 21,177, adding 19,127 on the first day (26th) and 1,285 on the second day (27th). The vaccination rate compared to the domestic population (based on 52 million) is 0.041%.
According to the vaccination status announced by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the 1st, the cumulative number of AstraZeneca vaccine recipients is 20,613, and the cumulative number of Pfizer vaccine recipients is 564. The AstraZeneca vaccination target includes inpatients and residents under 65 years old and workers at nursing hospitals, nursing facilities, and psychiatric nursing and rehabilitation facilities nationwide. As of the previous day, 311,061 people had completed vaccination. The vaccination rate compared to the target population is 6.65%.
The Pfizer vaccination target consists of 56,170 medical staff and workers at COVID-19 treatment hospitals and residential treatment centers, with a vaccination rate of 1.0%. Pfizer vaccinations are currently only conducted at the Seoul Central Vaccination Center and are planned to gradually expand nationwide.
Breaking down the number of vaccinated people by 17 cities and provinces on the previous day, Daejeon had the highest number with 224, followed by Seoul with 200, Busan 120, Jeonbuk 92, Chungbuk 50, Gyeonggi 36, Incheon 33, and Ulsan 10. There were no vaccinations in Daegu, Gwangju, Sejong, Gangwon, Chungnam, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Jeju.
The decrease in the number of vaccinated people on the second and third days compared to the first day is believed to be due to the weekend and holidays. On Saturdays and Sundays, the number of workers at nursing hospitals and nursing facilities slightly decreases, and many nursing facilities have set vaccination days on weekdays when medical treatment can be smoothly provided in case of adverse reactions.
The KDCA announced that the number of vaccinated people on the 26th and 27th increased by 22 and 68, respectively, compared to previous reports. This was because vaccination institutions registered vaccinated individuals late in the computer system.
Currently, COVID-19 vaccinations are being carried out with initial supplies of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines. Both vaccines require two doses for immunity formation. Currently, the first dose is being administered.
