[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A man in his 50s who sexually harassed a new female employee by calling her into his office and hugging her was sentenced to probation.

On the 1st, the Gwangju District Court announced that it sentenced Mr. A, an executive at a local manufacturing company, to 8 months in prison with 2 years of probation on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, etc. (sexual harassment by abuse of authority at work).

Additionally, he was ordered to attend a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for 2 years each.

Mr. A is accused of calling new female employee Ms. B into his office on the morning of August 28 last year, hugging her, and then sexually harassing her by patting or poking her buttocks and sides.

Furthermore, Mr. A forced the female employee by puckering his lips and saying, "Give me a kiss," and sexually harassed Ms. B when she refused, according to the investigation.

The court explained, "The sentence was determined considering that Mr. A confessed and showed remorse, reached a settlement with the victim, and has no prior record of sexual offenses."
