According to major foreign media, after reporting that one protester was shot dead by police on the afternoon of the 28th, the death toll increased to 4, 7, and then 11 within a day.
The UN Human Rights Office stated, "According to collected information, at least 18 people have died and 30 were injured due to the use of force by police and military in various regions of Myanmar throughout the day."
Earlier, a UN official confirmed that at least five people died in Yangon on the same day. A doctor who requested anonymity said that a man participating in an anti-coup protest in Yangon was shot in the chest and transported to a hospital but died.
Among the deceased in Yangon was a woman who participated in teachers' protests. She reportedly died of a heart attack following indiscriminate suppression operations by the police.
Additionally, Dawai area politician Cho Min Ti stated, "Three people died and several were injured due to police gunfire in Dawai."
Although no official tally has been released, it is estimated that more citizens have died in several cities.
According to death reports posted by Myanmar citizens on social networking services (SNS), 20 people are claimed to have died on this day: 2 in Yangon, 1 in Thingangyun, 1 in Dagon, 5 in Dawai, 1 in Mandalay, 3 in Bago, 1 in Pakokku, and 2 in Meik.
Another netizen claimed that 21 people died: 5 in Dawai, 4 in Yangon, 7 in Meik, 3 in Bago, 1 in Mandalay, and 1 in Pakokku, showing slight differences in the death toll.
Myanmar citizens have called this the worst bloodshed since the coup, referring to it as 'Bloody Sunday,' and have been posting photos and videos of citizens shot on SNS, appealing to the international community for help.
