[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] The biological father of the late Goo Hara, former member of the girl group KARA, won a child support lawsuit filed against the biological mother.
According to Star News on the 27th, the Gwangju Family Court Family Division 9 Single Judge issued a partial ruling in early February on the child support lawsuit filed by Goo, the biological father of the late Goo Hara, against Song, the biological mother.
The court stated, "After Goo separated from Song, he single-handedly raised the Goo siblings with the help of their mother until the day before they reached adulthood, and Song did not pay any child support during that period," calculating the unpaid child support at 67.2 million KRW.
It further ruled, "Song must pay delayed damages calculated at an annual rate of 5% from the day after the confirmation of the child support and judgment until full repayment."
Previously, Goo, the biological father of Goo Hara, had been preparing the lawsuit together while his son, Goo Ho-in, was filing a lawsuit against Song for division of inheritance property.
This lawsuit concerns Song's past child support, and Goo attended both hearings, but Song did not attend in person and participated through a lawyer.
Legal circles are calling this ruling unusual. Unlike previous precedents that did not recognize the contribution of a single parent raising a child alone in a single-parent family, the court acknowledged the biological father Goo's contribution to child-rearing.
Meanwhile, Goo Ho-in is promoting legislation called the "Goo Hara Act" together with Democratic Party lawmaker Seo Young-kyo, aimed at preventing inheritance of property by parents or children who have failed to fulfill their support obligations properly.
