Pfizer Vaccine Inoculations Begin Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) announced on the 27th that a total of 18,489 people nationwide completed their COVID-19 vaccinations on the first day of vaccination, the 26th.
Jeon Hae-cheol, the 2nd Deputy Head of CDSCH (Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety), explained during the CDSCH meeting remarks that "Yesterday, COVID-19 vaccinations with the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine were carried out as planned for 18,489 residents and workers at 17 city and provincial public health centers and 213 nursing facilities nationwide."
Deputy Head Jeon said, "So far, aside from mild symptoms such as headaches and fever related to the vaccine, no unusual adverse reactions have been reported."
He added, "Starting today, Pfizer vaccine vaccinations will also be administered to workers at COVID-19 treatment hospitals at five vaccination centers nationwide, beginning with the Central Vaccination Center," and "Following the arrival of 58,500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday, an additional 500,000 doses will be introduced from the fourth week of March."
He continued, "We will successfully achieve herd immunity within this year through timely vaccine procurement and rapid and safe vaccinations."
The CDSCH also requested compliance with quarantine rules, including refraining from gatherings on March 1st, as the number of new confirmed cases remained in the 400s for two consecutive days. Deputy Head Jeon said, "With the number of confirmed cases in the 400s continuing today as well as yesterday, we must not neglect adherence to quarantine rules."
