Let's Share Sleeping Books Together!... Guro-gu 'Chaekjeonggeojang' Operation

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) operates the ‘Book Station’ on the last Wednesday of every month.

Guro-gu announced on the 26th, “We have prepared the ‘Book Station’ program to revitalize small libraries and create an opportunity for communication between libraries and residents through book circulation.”

The ‘Book Station’ is a book circulation system where residents bring books they no longer read at home to nearby Saemaeul small libraries (excluding Guro 3-dong and Gaebong 1-dong), and the district office purchases them at 50% of the book price (up to 15,000 KRW) and donates them to small libraries and book cafes within the district.

The books eligible for purchase are new books published within 12 months from the event date. However, damaged books, books marked as donations or gifts, workbooks, and exam preparation books are excluded.

This year, Guro-gu advanced the operation period from March to February to activate the Book Station. The sales limit per person per session was expanded from a maximum of 3 books to 5 books, and the annual purchase cap was abolished. Books selected as ‘Books of Guro’ remain unrestricted in sales as before.

Guro-gu stated, “We hope this project will provide an opportunity for residents struggling due to COVID-19 to communicate with neighbors and find healing,” and added, “We will continue to strive to prepare various programs to promote reading culture.”
