Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong Welcomes Passage of Gadeok New Airport Special Act... Requests Consideration of Transportation Network

Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong posted a video on his Facebook welcoming the passage of the Gadeok New Airport Special Act in the National Assembly.

On the 26th, Mayor Byeon posted a welcoming video on his Facebook, saying, "I sincerely welcome the passage of the Gadeok New Airport Special Act, a long-cherished wish of 8 million residents of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, together with 250,000 citizens of Geoje."

Mayor Byeon expressed his joy, stating, "I am confident that Gadeok New Airport will create a new economic zone in the Southeast region comparable to the metropolitan area," and "Geoje City, being adjacent to Gadeok New Airport, is expected to see increased added value."

Mayor Byeon emphasized the establishment of a wide-area transportation network connecting Geoje City and Gadeok New Airport.

He stressed that Gyeongnam Province and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport should seriously consider extending the Daejeon?Tongyeong Expressway through Geoje to Gadeok New Airport and extending the Southern Inland Railway, which currently ends in Geoje, to Gadeok New Airport.

Unlike Gimhae Airport, which is close to the city center, Gadeok New Airport is planned to be built by reclaiming land and sea on Gadeokdo Island, located in Gangseo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City. Gadeokdo is very close as it is connected to Geoje City by the Geoga Bridge.

The Geoje area, with its strengths in tourism and shipbuilding industry development, has a prevailing atmosphere favoring the construction of Gadeokdo New Airport over expanding the existing Gimhae Airport to build a new airport.
