Composed of 97 Citizens from Various Sectors Including Civic Groups, Companies, Experts, and Youth
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The 13th Green Seoul Citizens' Committee, which will jointly promote major environmental policies of Seoul such as 'greenhouse gas reduction measures' and 'fine dust reduction plans' with citizens, has been launched.
The 13th Green Seoul Citizens' Committee is composed of a total of 97 citizens representing various sectors including civic groups, experts, businesspeople, journalists, legal professionals, youth, and city council members. It consists of five subcommittees, including the Climate and Air Quality Subcommittee, and during its two-year term starting this month, it will provide advice on Seoul's climate crisis response and air quality-related policies, as well as promote citizen and corporate practice projects.
The Green Seoul Citizens' Committee held a full meeting via video on the 26th of last month and elected Lee Kyung-hee, Director of Environmental Justice, as the co-chair representing citizens, forming an executive body that will lead the Green Seoul Citizens' Committee for two years.
The 13th Green Seoul Citizens' Committee is expected to serve as a strong support group for Seoul's climate crisis response and a channel to convey the vivid voices from the field without distortion through policy advice and expansion of citizen participation in Seoul's core environmental projects such as '2050 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Promotion,' 'Focused Management of Fine Dust for Citizen Health Protection,' and 'Creation of a Sustainable Resource Circulation City.'
Jung Soo-yong, Head of Seoul's Climate and Environment Headquarters, said, "For environmental policies such as greenhouse gas reduction and fine dust reduction to be effective on the ground, participation from citizens and businesses is most important," adding, "We expect the 13th Green Seoul Citizens' Committee to contribute to Seoul's climate crisis response through diverse policy proposals and the spread of citizen and corporate practices."
