Festival City Hampyeong's Drive-in Theater Surpasses 1,000 Cars in Cumulative Attendance Just 20 Days After Opening

One-Month Opening Event Featuring 'Genie's Magic Lamp That Grants Wishes'

[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong, Jeonnam, famous as a festival city, opened its drive-in theater on the 28th of last month, and the cumulative number of vehicles that watched the movies surpassed 1,000 within 20 days of opening.

According to Hampyeong County on the 26th, Hampyeong Drive-in Theater is the third drive-in theater ever established in the Honam region, with two screening rooms capable of simultaneously showing movies to a total of 180 vehicles.

The county believes that while the scale of the facility played a role, the easy access from Gwangju and nearby cities and counties, along with the preference for contactless experiences, led to the establishment of the second nationwide official online reservation system through the website, which has been a key factor in the stable operation of the theater.

Additionally, to commemorate one month since opening and surpassing 1,000 cumulative viewing vehicles, the county is holding the event “Genie’s Magic Lamp That Grants Wishes.”

If a group reservation (social, religious organizations, associations, etc.) is made for 30 or more vehicles in advance, the group can pre-arrange to watch their desired movie during weekday hours.

This event is scheduled to run throughout March and is expected to provide visitors to the drive-in theater with a unique memory.

County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “Despite difficult conditions, Hampyeong Drive-in Theater seems to be gradually stabilizing thanks to the interest of many county residents and neighboring city and provincial citizens,” and added, “As it is established at a nationwide top level, I hope it will help bridge the cultural gap with large cities and breathe new life into the depressed local economy.”
