[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) began COVID-19 vaccinations on the morning of the 26th for residents and workers under the age of 65 in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities within the district.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's COVID-19 vaccination plan for February to March, the district announced that it will prioritize AstraZeneca vaccine vaccinations for 662 residents and workers under 65 years old in elderly group facilities.

The first vaccination recipient in Gwanak-gu was Director JeongOO of a local nursing facility, who, along with 10 staff members of the facility, received the district's first COVID-19 vaccination at the public health center at 9:30 a.m. on the 26th.

Following the vaccination order, starting in March, the district plans to administer AstraZeneca vaccines to 838 high-risk healthcare workers in medical institutions and 428 first responders to COVID-19 (including testing, quarantine, epidemiological investigation, and inspection personnel).

Mayor Park Junhee of Gwanak-gu said, "Since this vaccination is the first step toward restoring our precious daily lives, I sincerely hope that the vaccination's effectiveness will be maximized and herd immunity will be formed so that we can overcome the current crisis." He added, "I ask all residents to unite and actively participate in the vaccination to protect their own health and the health of everyone from COVID-19."
