[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] Samjong KPMG announced on the 26th that the Gobongbap team, composed of students from Sungkyunkwan University and Pusan National University, won the '2021 KPMG Ideathon' held for university students.
The KPMG Ideathon is a programming development competition where university students majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), business, and economics solve corporate problems and enhance business efficiency with AI-centered ideas such as machine learning, data science, automation, and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces).
A total of 69 university students from 13 teams participating in this competition competed with ideas on AI technology solutions to overcome or utilize the impact of COVID-19.
The winning Gobongbap team presented a technology that enables selective re-learning of lecture parts without replaying the video. By developing automatic bookmark creation and a Q&A AI chatbot, they improved the inconveniences and inefficiencies of online learning, maximizing convenience and proposing a social solution to the educational gap deepened by COVID-19.
The runner-up ybigta team (Yonsei University) introduced an idea to overcome 'Corona Blue' by extracting and analyzing image, voice, and text data using AI technology to measure users' emotional states.
The third place was awarded to the PinkCow Lab team (Yonsei University), which proposed an idea to reduce social and economic costs of public quarantine by providing a mask non-wearing detection service through AI facial recognition.
The winning team receives a prize of 10 million KRW along with an internship opportunity at Samjong KPMG Lighthouse, while the runner-up and third place teams receive 5 million KRW and 3 million KRW respectively. The domestic winning team qualifies to participate in the international finals, the 'KPMG Ideation Challenge (KIC),' hosted by global KPMG. The KIC, held in April, will feature fierce idea competitions among winning teams from 16 countries including Korea, China, Switzerland, and Australia.
