"Recovering from COVID-19 with Kimchi"… UK Expert Warns Dietary Claims as "Misinformation"

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Jumi Lee] Gwyneth Paltrow, an American Hollywood actress and entrepreneur, recently revealed her dietary regimen as a secret to overcoming COVID-19. However, a senior official from the UK health authorities warned that her approach is not recommended.

Steven Powis, National Medical Director for NHS England, pointed out, as reported by the BBC on the 24th (local time), "Some of the COVID-19 recovery methods disclosed by Paltrow are ones we do not recommend at all."

He stated, "We take the long-term effects of COVID-19 very seriously and must approach them scientifically and earnestly," adding, "Celebrities using social media have a duty to act responsibly." He further noted, "Like the virus, misinformation crosses boundaries, mutates, and evolves."

Earlier, on the 17th (local time), according to CNN, Paltrow revealed on the website of the magazine she founded, Goop, that she suffered from aftereffects such as chronic fatigue and 'brain fog' following her COVID-19 infection.

Paltrow shared the dietary regimen and lifestyle habits she followed for recovery. She said she adheres to a low-carb, high-fat, and plant-based diet, avoiding sugar and alcohol. She particularly mentioned eating 'kimchi,' praising it as "an amazing food," highlighting a sugar-free kimchi (Mejis brand sugar-free kimchi) she discovered. She also added that she fasts until 11 a.m. daily and enjoys infrared saunas.

In the past, she also attracted attention for her special affection for K-food by posting videos on YouTube of herself eating Korean bibimbap.
