[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The next-generation military radio (TMMR·Tactical Multiband Multirole Radio), which will support the future combat system being promoted by our military, has entered full-scale mass production.

On the 23rd, LIG Nex1 announced on the 25th that it held a 'TMMR First Mass Production Shipment and Military Delivery Commemoration Ceremony' at the production headquarters in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, attended by military officials from the Agency for Defense Development, Defense Acquisition Program Administration, related companies, and business, production, and quality management executives.

Developed under the leadership of the Agency for Defense Development with the participation of LIG Nex1, the TMMR features ▲multiband ▲multifunction ▲multichannel capabilities, enabling simultaneous communication over multiple channels with a single device. It is also a state-of-the-art network radio using SDR (Software Defined Radio) technology that allows software-based selection and operation of various communication modes in the ▲HF ▲VHF ▲UHF bands.

The TMMR is expected to replace existing communication equipment such as the PRC-999K and PRC-950K currently used by our military. It will play a crucial role as the foundational system in the 'networking' sector, a core element of the Army Tiger 4.0 project currently being promoted by the Army.

According to LIG Nex1, the TMMR breaks away from the traditional analog voice-only method, enabling simultaneous use of large-capacity data communication and voice. It also supports integrated operation of network-centric command and tactical systems and joint operations encompassing land, sea, and air forces.

It is also expected to stabilize business performance in the defense industry and create employment. In April last year, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration-led Defense Acquisition Promotion Committee resolved to promote mass production of TMMR worth 1.2 trillion KRW by 2025. Since the existing radio PRC-999K is used as a main radio in countries such as Indonesia, there is also high export potential.

Kim Ji-chan, CEO of LIG Nex1, said, "With the active interest and support of industry, academia, research, and military stakeholders, we will do our best to manage schedules and quality in cooperation with partner companies so that the TMMR, which has entered full-scale mass production, can contribute to strengthening the military's capabilities."
