Seoul City Announces Public Contest for Peace and Unification Education and Cultural Development Projects... Support Worth 1.5 Billion KRW

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 25th that it will collectively open a public contest for the ‘2021 Peace and Unification Education and Cultural Development Support Project’ worth 1.5 billion KRW, which includes four projects confirmed for implementation this year.

The Peace and Unification Education and Cultural Development Support Project has expanded various citizen participation programs every year since launching the citizen participation-type peace and unification education project in 2016, in accordance with the Unification Education Support Act and the Seoul Metropolitan Government Ordinance on Peace and Unification Education. Following the 2019 projects for cultivating peace and unification youth leaders and peace and unification family camps, last year it included a peace and unification senior cultivation project.

The citizen participation-type peace and unification education project is a public contest where organizations propose peace and unification education projects they wish to undertake, selecting from two categories: citizen education type and citizen direct participation production type.

The citizen education type includes ?citizen lectures (lectures, special lectures, etc.), ?expert training, ?academic conferences (forums, seminars, roundtable meetings, etc.), and ?field experience (field trips), with support up to 20 million KRW per project. Organizations selected as excellent in 2020 can apply for up to 30 million KRW. The citizen direct participation production type includes ?cultural and artistic content production, ?educational content production (teaching materials, teaching aids, etc.), and ?new media broadcasting content production (YouTube, podcasts, etc.), with support up to 40 million KRW per project. Organizations selected as excellent in 2020 can apply for up to 50 million KRW.

The designated contest is intended to enhance project outcomes by specializing participation targets such as cultivating peace and unification youth leaders in Seoul.

The peace and unification youth leader cultivation project will operate all aspects including recruiting and promoting youth leaders, inauguration ceremonies, supporting youth leader activities and network operations, and holding performance reporting meetings. Applications are accepted from individuals or organizations to hold visiting academies, and to operate all aspects of the senior cultivation project including holding presentations and exhibitions. This year’s peace and unification family camp will be operated in a small-scale, dispersed manner considering the COVID-19 situation, similar to last year, and two organizations will be selected.

Organizations wishing to participate can apply through the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Integrated Subsidy Management System from 9 a.m. on the 2nd of next month until 6 p.m. on the 12th. Each organization can apply for up to one project each in the general contest and the designated contest. Submitted projects will be selected and announced after evaluation by the project review committee and deliberation and resolution by the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Committee, considering the appropriateness of the project, the adequacy of the subsidy amount requested, the organization’s project execution capability, and performance records related to peace and unification education and cultural development projects over the past three years.
