Gwangju University Maintains Certification for International Education Competency... Boosts Attraction of International Students

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University announced on the 24th that it has been selected as a university maintaining certification in the Ministry of Education's 'Education Internationalization Competency Certification' results.

Gwangju University was selected as a certified university until February 2022 in the 'Education Internationalization Competency Certification University' evaluation in February last year, and it receives priority in visa issuance procedure simplification and internationalization-related policies and projects of the Ministry of Education.

It also enjoys benefits such as autonomy in selecting foreign graduate students, additional points for the Government Scholarship Program for Korean Government Scholarship Program (GKS) students, and preferential participation in overseas Korean study abroad fairs.

The 'Education Internationalization Competency Certification System' is a project that selects universities with excellent internationalization capabilities and promotes the expansion of outstanding foreign students, and it is a system expanded and reorganized from the existing 'Foreign Student Certification System.'

To receive this certification, universities must meet the Ministry of Education's standards for essential indicators such as illegal stay rate, dropout rate, foreign student tuition burden rate, medical insurance subscription rate, foreign student language proficiency, and provision rate of dormitories for new students.

Jeon Jeong-hwan, Director of International Cooperation at Gwangju University, said, "Through maintaining this certification, we have gained more momentum in participating in education with advanced overseas universities, expanding sisterhood ties, international exchange activities, and attracting outstanding foreign students," adding, "We will actively implement programs that allow domestic students and foreign students to interact to enhance the internationalization level of enrolled students."
