Gwangju City Quarantine Authorities Announce Diagnostic Testing for Over 1,500 Employees Inside Building
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] As a large number of COVID-19 cases emerged centered around a call center of an insurance company in the Gwangju area, health authorities have closed the entire building and ordered diagnostic testing for all employees within the building.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City health authorities on the 24th, the entire building housing an insurance company where 24 people were confirmed positive in one day was closed.
The building has 5 basement floors and 15 above-ground floors and houses several other call centers. Additionally, Gwangju Urban Corporation also uses the same building, with approximately 1,500 employees working inside.
Health authorities have instructed all employees to undergo diagnostic testing at screening clinics in their residential health centers.
Meanwhile, centered on the insurance company in Gwangju, 24 people were confirmed positive in just one day on the 23rd. This includes 21 employees, 2 family members, and 1 close contact, spreading up to n-th generation infections.
On the 22nd, Gwangju case number 1994 was confirmed to be an employee of the insurance company’s call center, and as a result of a full investigation of all 118 employees, the total number including the index patient has risen to 25.
Currently, 6 people are undergoing retesting, so health authorities explained that the number of confirmed cases may increase further.
