[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Korea Center announced on the 24th that the UK logistics center of its overseas direct purchase platform Moltail has marked its first anniversary of operation. The UK logistics center was established in January last year as a proactive response to Brexit and European issues, and was opened in partnership with a locally verified professional logistics center considering operational efficiency and cost reduction.
The logistics center, located in Berkshire, southern England, has a total area of 1,663m² (approximately 503 pyeong) and is within a 20-minute drive to Heathrow Airport, minimizing delivery time and cost burden for customers who previously used the German logistics center for UK direct purchases. In particular, the number of overseas direct purchase cases including fulfillment at the logistics center grew by about 65% in the second half of last year compared to the first half, leading the UK direct purchase market.
According to Moltail's analysis of overseas direct purchase cases including fulfillment in the UK last year, popular products included ▲Lush body care products ▲clothing and accessories from stores such as COS, Ralph Lauren, and Mr Porter ▲Converse and New Balance sneakers ▲personal hobby items (tableware sets, interior accessories, etc.), showing strong performance in clothing and fashion accessories.
A Moltail official said, “Due to the sharp decline in travelers caused by COVID-19, local luxury shopping malls and select shops that are struggling with sales are actively collaborating with our company, which has a global distribution network,” adding, “The role of Moltail’s local European centers and advanced logistics networks is expected to grow even further.”
