[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 23rd that it is recruiting participants for the 2021 Automobile Carbon Point Program, where points accumulate the less you drive your car.
The Automobile Carbon Point Program is a greenhouse gas reduction initiative that expands the carbon point system, which rewards households for reducing energy consumption, to the automobile sector. During the participation period, incentives ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 KRW will be paid in December based on the reduction in driving distance.
Eligible participants are non-commercial passenger and van vehicles with 12 seats or fewer, using gasoline, diesel, or LPG, registered in Changwon City. Corporate (group) owned vehicles, commercial vehicles, and eco-friendly vehicles (electric, hybrid, etc.) are excluded.
To apply, participants must sign up on the Automobile Carbon Point website and upload supporting documents such as vehicle license plate and side photos, vehicle registration certificate, and dashboard photos via the text message link sent after registration.
The Automobile Carbon Point Program, first implemented last year, had 133 participants. Among them, 99 reduced their driving distance, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 39 tons. The city paid a total of 7.46 million KRW in incentives, ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 KRW per person, to those who reduced their driving distance.
Lee Chunsu, Director of the Environmental Policy Division, said, “This year, with more than twice the number of participants compared to last year, we hope many citizens will join the Automobile Carbon Point Program to practice eco-friendly driving, reduce greenhouse gases and fine dust, and receive incentives.”
