Gwangju Nam-gu to Promote 'Agricultural Specialty Products Online Market' with Sister and Friendly Local Governments

Goal to Open in May... Promoting Mutual Growth and Economic Revitalization through Direct Transactions

Gwangju Nam-gu to Promote 'Agricultural Specialty Products Online Market' with Sister and Friendly Local Governments

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) is promoting the establishment of a non-face-to-face direct transaction online marketplace with local governments nationwide that are sister and friendship cities.

On the 23rd, Nam-gu proposed the direct transaction online marketplace project for agricultural specialties to 15 sister and friendship cities and received confirmed participation responses from 10 cities.

Accordingly, Nam-gu plans to promote the project aiming to open an online marketplace by May where agricultural specialties produced in 10 local government areas nationwide can be traded directly.

The local governments participating in the direct transaction online marketplace include Imsil-gun in Jeonbuk, Gangseo-gu in Busan, Chuncheon-si in Gangwon-do, Hwaseong-si in Gyeonggi-do, Goseong-gun in Gyeongnam, Boseong-gun, Gokseong-gun, Jindo-gun, Yeonggwang-gun, and Wando-gun in Jeonnam, totaling 10 locations.

Once the direct transaction online marketplace for agricultural specialties between exchange cities is established, the intermediate distribution process will be simplified, enabling direct transactions between producers and consumers in each region, which is expected to allow the purchase of excellent products at affordable prices.

The items available for trade in the online marketplace will be finalized later through consultations between local governments. It is understood that well-known specialties such as cheese from Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, dakgalbi from Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, green tea and cockles from Boseong-gun, Jeonnam, will be available for trade through the online marketplace.

The direct transaction online marketplace for agricultural specialties from exchange cities will be established on the Nam-gu Office website, and online marketplaces operated by the 10 local governments nationwide will also be linked.

A Nam-gu official said, “We initiated the project to establish a direct transaction online marketplace between exchange cities in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era and to reflect the non-face-to-face consumption trend,” adding, “We will do our best to promote mutual development and economic revitalization between regions through sustainable private sector economic exchanges.”
