Seongbuk-gu Wins Director Award of Cultural Promotion Institute in Non-Competitive Category of Public Design Awards

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu received the Director Award (Honorable Mention) from the Korea Craft & Design Cultural Promotion Agency in the non-competition category of the '2020 Korea Public Design Awards,' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The non-competition category of the Korea Public Design Awards was established to enhance the role and awareness of public design and to suggest directions for a better life. The awardees were selected based on cases of improving public design administrative services among 243 local governments nationwide.

Seongbuk-gu was recognized for its integration of public design to improve administrative services, including the '2017 Establishment of Universal Design Guidelines' and the '2020 Establishment of Public Design Promotion Plan and Enactment of Integrated Ordinance.'

Additionally, Seongbuk-gu executed the 'Design Improvement Service for Seongbuk-gu Office Applying Universal Design,' an implementation plan of the 2020 Public Design Promotion Plan, which was acknowledged as a model case of applying universal design to public buildings, leading to the award.

A Seongbuk-gu official stated, “We were able to confirm frontline efforts to improve public design administrative services, and we will continue to strive to create a pleasant and safe Seongbuk-gu through public design for the residents.”
