[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Na Kyung-won, a preliminary candidate for the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral primary, promised to create at least one prestigious school in each district to eliminate academic disparities between autonomous districts. She also introduced plans to establish ‘Ssaem,’ a Seoul-style educational broadcasting service, and to consider 24-hour childcare services.

On the 21st, Candidate Na visited the Nowon Children's Library in Seoul, toured the facilities, and held a meeting with parents of elementary, middle, and high school children to announce her education pledges. First, she stated, "I believe that one of the factors driving up real estate prices is the ‘education gap.’ To eliminate academic disparities across the 25 autonomous districts, I will ensure that each district has at least one prestigious school." She added, "We will also establish Global Community Centers in all 25 districts to provide excellent foreign language education, such as English, at an affordable cost of 20,000 to 30,000 KRW per month."

Candidate Na also revealed plans to create an internet program at the Seoul city level. She said, "Due to the recent surge in demand for online lectures caused by COVID-19, I will build ‘Ssaem,’ the best Seoul-style educational broadcasting service in the country, by linking EBS, Gangnam District Office internet lectures, and Seoul’s TBS."

She also promised to prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for high school seniors and teachers from kindergarten through high school. She explained, "The right of students to receive education has been hindered by COVID-19, and the resulting academic gap is very serious. To ensure a swift recovery in the education field, high school seniors and teachers from kindergarten to high school will be given priority for COVID-19 vaccinations." Additionally, her plan includes installing at least four non-contact thermometers per school and establishing a system that automatically sends students’ temperature measurement results to parents upon school attendance.

Candidate Na also pledged to develop an AI personal tutor system. She stated, "I will build a personalized AI tutor system tailored to each student," and announced plans to create a customized AI teaching and learning platform accessible to both students and teachers.

She also mentioned considering 24-hour childcare services. She said, "Working parents often feel overwhelmed trying to balance work and childcare, as if they need ten bodies. For working couples, single-parent families, and others with urgent needs, I will consider implementing 24-hour childcare services."
