[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics announced that its global market share of DRAM semiconductors slightly decreased to 43.1% last year compared to the previous year, based on its own estimates, and stated that it will respond to the future through high-capacity and differentiated products. While the market share of mobile devices (HHP), including smartphones, also declined, the market share of TVs, which benefited from the COVID-19 'stay-at-home' demand, was evaluated to have expanded.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 21st, Samsung Electronics stated this while summarizing market conditions and business situations through the notice of the shareholders' meeting convened on the 16th. Samsung Electronics estimated its DRAM market share last year at 43.1%, which is lower than the 43.9% in 2018 and 43.7% in 2019 evaluated by the market research firm DRAMeXchange. Samsung Electronics mentioned that IDC, a market research firm, expects DRAM demand to grow about 15% year-on-year this year and said, "We plan to proactively respond to future changes in the post-COVID era through high-capacity and differentiated products leveraging product competitiveness superiority."

The market share of mobile devices (HHP), including smartphones, was also estimated to have decreased. Samsung Electronics estimated its HHP market share last year at 16.2%, which is lower than the 17.5% in 2019 and 17.4% in 2018 reported by the market research firm Strategy Analytics. Samsung Electronics emphasized, "We maintain the global No. 1 position in the mobile phone market and have firmly held the global No. 1 position for 10 consecutive years since 2011."

On the other hand, regarding TVs, a representative product of the home appliance sector, Samsung Electronics estimated its market share last year to be 32.3%. This is an increase compared to 29.0% in 2018 and 30.9% in 2019 according to the market research firm Omdia. Samsung Electronics explained, "Despite the global economic crisis caused by COVID-19 last year, we expanded market leadership and dominance in the large-sized market through new QLED 8K·4K TVs and lifestyle TV products." Samsung Electronics announced that it will expand its premium product lineup by launching Neo QLED and 80?110 inch home micro LED products this year, diversify smart functions such as TV Plus, home training, and gaming, and form partnerships with various companies.

It was estimated that the market share of smartphone panels, a major product of the display division, and digital cockpit, a representative product of the automotive electronics division, increased. The market share of smartphone panels last year was estimated at 43.8%, slightly higher than 43.6% in 2019 (based on Omdia). For digital cockpit, which configures vehicle convenience function control devices in the front driver and passenger areas as digital devices, Samsung Electronics estimated based on quantity data from Omdia and LMC that the market share increased from 24.8% in 2019 to 27.5% last year.
