World No. 2 Jon Rahm has equipped the 'Odyssey Two-Ball 10 Putter' and replaced all his clubs with Callaway Golf.
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] "I even changed my putter."
This is the story of the new weapon of Jon Rahm (Spain), world No. 2. Since turning professional in 2016, he had been a flagship player for TaylorMade, but this year he completely switched to Callaway Golf. From last month's first PGA Tour event of the year, the Sentry Tournament held in Hawaii, he used a driver, woods, irons, wedges, and balls from Callaway Golf, and on the 1st at the Farmers Insurance Open, he even changed his putter.
All 14 clubs in his caddie bag are now filled with Callaway Golf products. After much consideration, he chose the Callaway Odyssey 2-Ball Ten Prototype putter instead of the previous TaylorMade Spider X putter. It has a loft of 2.5 degrees, a lie angle of 68 degrees, a length of 37 inches, and is fitted with an Odyssey 56 grip.
The shaft is the Red SL Double Bend. It differs slightly from the regular model and has a different face material. Rahm is the perfect candidate to fill the void left by the veteran Phil Mickelson (USA), who moved to the PGA Champions (Senior) Tour. Born in Barrika, Spain, he gained attention by winning the Ben Hogan Award for the best amateur in both 2015 and 2016, and immediately won the Farmers Open in January 2017.
In June last year, he won the Memorial Tournament and became world No. 1 for the first time in 31 years for a Spanish player since Seve Ballesteros in 1989. He secured a total of five wins, including a dramatic 20-meter winning birdie in a playoff on the final day of the BMW Championship last August. He had already amassed 11 wins with Callaway and Odyssey during his time at Arizona State University. He boasts that "the testing process went smoothly and I gained confidence."
In fact, during a practice round at the Silverleaf Course in Scottsdale, he set a course record with a score of 59. His compatibility with the new clubs is good. He posted decent results in the three tournaments he entered this year: tied 7th at the Sentry Tournament, tied 7th at the Farmers Insurance Open, and tied 13th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. His new season averages are 27th in driving distance (306.9 yards), 68th in fairway hit rate (63.78%), and 33rd in greens in regulation (72.02%).
