[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is implementing special quarantine measures during the Lunar New Year holiday to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to the city on the 11th, Daejeon experienced a large-scale outbreak on the 24th of last month, with a weekly average of 19.2 confirmed COVID-19 cases, but recently the number of confirmed cases has decreased to an average of 3.4 per day.

However, concerns remain that the nationwide increase in population movement during the Lunar New Year holiday could trigger a critical phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, the city plans to focus on quarantine management of high-risk and multi-use facilities such as social distancing during the holiday period, while maintaining the quarantine system including operation of screening clinics, monitoring of self-quarantined individuals, and management of overseas arrivals.

First, from the 11th to the 14th, during the Lunar New Year holiday, the city will switch to an emergency work system by organizing emergency duty teams to inspect compliance with social distancing, manage overseas arrivals, monitor self-quarantined individuals, and operate screening clinics without any gaps.

Screening clinics will operate at eight locations, including health centers in five districts, Chungnam National University Hospital, Daejeon Korea Hospital, and Hanbat temporary screening clinic.

Additionally, monitoring of self-quarantined individuals during the holiday will be conducted 24/7 with two shifts of emergency duty, ensuring continuous operation without any gaps. Real-time detection of abnormalities such as escape, GPS shutdown, or no movement will be carried out through geographic information system (GIS) situation monitoring and dedicated public official app management to enable prompt response.

Furthermore, proactive COVID-19 testing linked with tuberculosis screening for vulnerable groups such as homeless people and residents of jjokbangchon (small rooms) will be conducted at Daejeon Station Plaza until the 18th.

Mayor Heo Tae-jeong of Daejeon said, “Although the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Daejeon is gradually decreasing, it is not yet a stage to be complacent,” and added, “We ask citizens to comply with quarantine rules and to refrain from traveling to their hometowns or meeting others as much as possible.”
