Pretended to be Dead After Encountering a Bear in Alaska to Save Life

[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A man skiing in Alaska, USA, encountered a bear but narrowly escaped death by playing dead, CNN reported on the 9th (local time).

According to CNN, on the 6th, a man skiing with two companions in the remote mountainous area of Haines, Alaska, discovered a grizzly bear's den and came face to face with the bear there.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game stated that the man acted carelessly, waking a mother grizzly bear with her cubs, which then attacked him.

An Alaska official told CNN in an interview, "The attacked man thought at some point that he should play dead," adding, "This method was probably a good idea in such a situation."

The man's companions administered first aid to the bear-bitten man and reported the incident to the Coast Guard. The responding Coast Guard helicopter found them about 16 km northwest of Haines.

The Coast Guard immediately transported the man, who had head and hand injuries, to a hospital in Juneau, reporting that he was conscious during the transfer.
