[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The LPGA Tour Founders Cup has secured a new sponsor.
The LPGA Tour website announced on the 10th (Korean time) that "IT specialist company Cognizant will become the new main sponsor of the Founders Cup." From this year, the tournament will be held under the name Cognizant Founders Cup. The total prize money has also doubled from the previous $1.5 million (?1.66 billion) to $3 million (?3.32 billion). Except for the five major tournaments and the season finale CME Group Tour Championship, this is the highest prize money on the LPGA Tour.
The scale was upgraded to honor the special significance of the tournament commemorating the achievements of the 'Founders' who established the LPGA Tour. The venue was moved to Mountain Ridge Golf Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey, USA, and the event date was changed from March to October. Korean players have combined for four wins: Kim Hyo-joo (26, Lotte) in 2015, Kim Se-young (28, Mirae Asset) in 2016, Park In-bee (33, KB Financial Group) in 2018, and Ko Jin-young (26) in 2019. The tournament was not held last year due to the impact of COVID-19.
