[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 10th that it is continuously recruiting companies to participate in an industrial convergence network that enables linkage and collaboration between different industries, such as traditional industries with strong local bases and new technology sectors, in response to the rapidly changing Fourth Industrial Revolution era.

Since 2017, Daegu City has operated the Future Industry Promotion Team to discover linkage and cooperation projects between different industries. This year, the project name has been changed to the "Industrial Convergence Platform Operation Support Project" to strengthen the linkage and cooperation between local traditional industries and the 5+1 future industries.

The "5+1 industries" refer to water, medical, future automobiles, smart energy, ICT convergence, and machinery robotics.

The main contents include holding Industrial Convergence Networking Days (more than three times a year) and supporting Industrial Convergence R&BD (up to 80 million KRW). Unlike last year, the project will expand convergence with traditional industries such as textiles and root materials, focusing mainly on the 5+1 future industries. Additionally, considering the regional industrial characteristics with many secondary and tertiary parts suppliers, the plan is to expand network participation of companies both inside and outside the region, including Gyeongbuk and the metropolitan area.

The commercialization support limit for excellent products (technologies) through cooperation between companies will also be significantly increased from the existing 40 million KRW to 80 million KRW. The excellent products (technologies) eligible for support will be selected through a public contest.

Despite the impact of COVID-19 last year, Daegu City held a total of three Industrial Convergence Networking Days both online and offline, with 129 participating companies, resulting in 193 cooperation meetings. In addition, among the convergence products (technologies) discovered through linked meetings between companies, seven excellent projects with high commercialization potential were supported.

Detailed information can be confirmed through the Policy Planning Team of Daegu Technopark Foundation, which is conducting the project.

Lee Seung-dae, Director of Innovation Growth Bureau of Daegu City, stated, "To secure differentiation from existing projects, we will focus on discovering future-oriented businesses through linkage and convergence between the 5+1 future industries and traditional industries," adding, "We will actively discover and support excellent products or technologies with high commercialization potential through cooperation among companies, industries, and technologies."
