[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it has created and distributed the 'Building Height Standards Guidebook by Street Block.'
Until now, citizens and officials involved in building permits had difficulty verifying the building height standards designated for each street block (an area surrounded by roads), as these standards varied depending on the region and location.
The guidebook consists of a total of 30 pages divided into three chapters, making it easy to find the desired information.
The 'Overview of Height Standards by Street Block' chapter includes the definition and purpose of the height standards, designated targets, and procedures. The 'Explanation' chapter covers the rationale for revising the standards and their application details, while the 'Status' chapter introduces the designation and operation status of height restriction zones in Seoul, as well as height designation and calculation areas.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to distribute 300 copies of the guidebook to the building permit departments of Seoul and its autonomous districts. It is also available for free viewing on the Seoul Metropolitan Government's electronic document website and the Seoul Housing Portal.
Meanwhile, Seoul designates and operates building height standards by street block. Based on the Building Ordinance, these standards are set to reflect regional characteristics, create desirable urban landscapes, and protect residents' living environments. The total area of the street blocks is approximately 63.6 square kilometers, which is 180 times the size of Yeouido.
