[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The decision on whether to detain former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Baek Woon-gyu, who is suspected of manipulating the economic feasibility evaluation of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, will be made on the 8th.

On the 5th, the court announced that a detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for former Minister Baek will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the 8th, presided over by Judge Oh Seyong of the Daejeon District Court's warrant division.

The day before, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 5 (Chief Prosecutor Lee Sang-hyun) requested a pre-arrest warrant for former Minister Baek on charges of abuse of authority and obstruction of business.

Former Minister Baek is suspected of manipulating the economic feasibility evaluation by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power before the closure of Wolseong Unit 1 and deleting related documents, thereby obstructing the Board of Audit and Inspection's audit.

In addition, he is also suspected of involvement in the deletion of 530 nuclear power-related documents by three Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy officials.

Meanwhile, it is reported that former Minister Baek denied most of the charges during the prosecution investigation on the 25th of last month.
