[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City will focus on selecting 1,155 people, which is 84% of the 1,382 public job project recruits for this year, during the first half of the year.

By project, there are 822 for public work, 100 for community jobs, and 233 for local quarantine jobs.

The 'Public Work Project' is a city-run project that provides short-term jobs to vulnerable groups and proceeds in three stages. This year, a total of 953 people will be selected.

At the end of last year, applications for the first stage of public work were received, and a total of 327 people were selected and are currently under review. The selected personnel will work until May. The second stage of public work plans to recruit 495 people in April.

The 'Community Job Project' is a government-funded project that provides livelihood jobs to low-income groups and long-term unemployed people. It will hire a total of 196 people, 100 in the first half and 96 in the second half of the year.

The first half recruitment is currently under selection review, and the selected personnel will participate in the project until June. The second half recruitment is scheduled for July.

The 'Local Quarantine Job Project' is a government-funded project to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support the livelihood of vulnerable employment groups. It runs until May, and currently, 233 people have been selected to carry out quarantine work such as fever checks and registry management for visitors to local public institutions.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "Considering the frozen local employment market due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to focus on public job projects in the first half of the year," and added, "We will establish a cooperative system with districts and counties and do our best to ensure the project proceeds on time through prompt recruitment."

As a result of applications for the first stage public work and first half community jobs this year, 4,883 people applied for 427 recruitment spots, recording a competition rate of 11 to 1. This is much higher than last year's 7 to 1 competition rate, indicating an increased demand for public jobs due to the COVID-19 economic crisis.
