351 Local Cases, 19 Imported Cases

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 5th, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases recorded 370. After two consecutive days of over 400 cases since the 3rd, the number dropped to the 300s for the first time in three days.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 5th, 370 new domestic COVID-19 cases were confirmed. Among the new cases, 351 were locally transmitted, and 19 were imported. The total cumulative domestic cases surpassed 80,000 as of this date.
Cases continued to occur mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area. There were 122 cases in Seoul, 110 in Gyeonggi, and 25 in Incheon, totaling 257 cases in the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, 33 cases were confirmed in Busan. Additionally, Daegu and Gwangju each reported 14 cases, Chungnam 11, Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam each 6, Gangwon 5, Chungbuk 3, and Jeju 2. No new cases were reported in Daejeon, Ulsan, Sejong, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam.
There were 19 imported cases. Among them, 7 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 12 were confirmed in the local community. Eight were Korean nationals, and 11 were foreigners.
The cumulative death toll from COVID-19 increased by 11 from the previous day, reaching 1,459. Among hospitalized patients, the number of critically ill patients decreased by 11 to 200. The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation increased by 413, totaling 70,117.
The number of diagnostic tests conducted on suspected cases was 44,083, and 28,369 tests were performed at temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area. At these metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 56 confirmed cases were identified.
