Both Markets Start Slightly Higher... KOSPI Up 0.35%

KOSPI Recovers to 3100s Early in Session with Expanding Gains
KOSDAQ Also Surpasses 970

[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ opened higher, supported by buying pressure from foreigners and individual investors in the early session.

On the 5th, the KOSPI opened at 3,098.49, up 0.35% (10.94 points) from the previous day. It soon rose above the 3,100 level. As of 9:20 a.m., it climbed to 3,123.69.

Foreigners and individuals net bought 13.8 billion KRW and 84.2 billion KRW, respectively. Meanwhile, institutions net sold 89.3 billion KRW.

Many sectors showed gains. The chemical sector had the largest increase at 1.83%, followed by pharmaceuticals (1.29%), securities (1.27%), medical precision instruments (1.20%), and banks (1.15%). Transportation equipment (-0.93%), paper & wood (-0.62%), and construction (-0.75%) declined.

Most of the top 10 market capitalization stocks also rose. LG Chem led with a 3.5% increase, followed by Celltrion (3.0%), NAVER (2.5%), SK Hynix (2.0%), Samsung SDI (1.6%), and Samsung Electronics (1.4%). Hyundai Motor (-1.2%), Kia (-0.5%), and Samsung Biologics (-0.1%) fell.

On the same day, the KOSDAQ opened at 965.61, up 0.11% (1.03 points) from the previous day. The gains widened, reaching 970.10 as of 9:20 a.m.

Individual investors stood out in the KOSDAQ market, net buying 64.8 billion KRW. Foreigners and institutions net sold 35.3 billion KRW.

Many sectors also rose. Distribution (1.87%), pharmaceuticals (1.13%), information devices (0.99%), and medical & precision instruments (0.97%) showed notable gains. Conversely, broadcasting services (-2.14%), telecommunications & broadcasting services (-1.70%), and telecommunications equipment (-0.26%) declined.

Most of the top 10 market capitalization stocks rose. Celltrion Pharm (3.2%), Alteogen (3.0%), Kakao Games (2.7%), Celltrion Healthcare (2.2%), and Seegene (1.8%) led the gains. Only CJ ENM (-3.7%) and Pearl Abyss (-0.6%) fell.
