[Featured Stock] Dongwoon Anatech, Benefiting from Practical Autonomous Driving... Anticipation for LiDAR Development for Autonomous Vehicles

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Amid continued interest in future mobility such as electric vehicles, hydrogen cars, and autonomous vehicles in the domestic stock market, Dongwoon Anatech is gaining attention for its LiDAR technology for autonomous driving.

As of 11:27 AM on the 1st, Dongwoon Anatech was trading at 10,500 KRW, up 4.48% (450 KRW) compared to the previous trading day.

According to DS Investment & Securities, Dongwoon Anatech developed a VCSEL driver IC product (for mobile use) for ToF. Dongwoon Anatech is the second company worldwide to develop this technology in a market previously monopolized by Japan's Sony Corporation.

Currently, Dongwoon Anatech is developing a VCSEL driver IC for LiDAR for autonomous driving, targeting the first half of the year in collaboration with an unlisted domestic company developing autonomous driving LiDAR modules. The company plans to unveil LiDAR for autonomous vehicles this year.

Yang Hyungmo, a researcher at DS Investment & Securities, explained, "Dongwoon Anatech is supplying haptic drives to the Hyundai Motor Group," and added, "Since the price of mobile VCSELs is expected to be at least 700 KRW, if LiDAR is installed in vehicles, Dongwoon Anatech will greatly benefit."

Dongwoon Anatech's haptic IC is installed in the jog shuttle found in luxury cars such as Hyundai's Genesis models GV80 and G80.

Apple has applied ToF to the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. Researcher Yang predicted that Dongwoon Anatech's clients will also equip ToF in the second half of this year. If the target of delivering 500 million ToF units next year is achieved, sales of 150 billion KRW are also expected.
