[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] An incident occurred at a women's hospital in Ulsan where a woman in her 30s who underwent a cesarean section experienced hemorrhaging and cardiac arrest, leading to a hysterectomy. The mother of the patient expressed frustration, claiming that the hospital's delayed response worsened the situation, while netizens showed sympathy for the case.
On the 30th, a post titled "Cardiac Arrest and Hysterectomy after Cesarean Section at xx Women's Hospital in Nam-gu, Ulsan" was uploaded on an online community.
The author, who identified herself as the mother of the patient, said, "My daughter gave birth via cesarean section at 10 a.m. on January 5th to the chief doctor of xx Women's Hospital in Nam-gu, Ulsan, but then suffered cardiac arrest," adding, "Right after leaving the operating room, she complained of cold sweat and nausea, so we called the attending doctor, who said the uterine contractions were good but there seemed to be minor bleeding near the vaginal area and suggested monitoring the situation."
She continued, "Even afterward, my daughter's face turned pale and she continued to sweat coldly, showing no improvement, but the doctor went to assist another mother in labor and was not present. The bleeding worsened, and around noon her blood pressure dropped to 70/50. The attending doctor only appeared around 1:10 p.m. and, seeing the bleeding wouldn't stop, told us to go to a university hospital for uterine artery embolization."
The patient soon arrived at the university hospital and received 70 to 80 transfusions, but the emergency room doctor told her, "The amount of bleeding is too much to keep up with the transfusions. Why did you come so late?"
The author said, "The bleeding was so severe that she had cardiac arrest three times," and expressed frustration, "The obstetrician at the university hospital said, 'At this state, uterine artery embolization is not possible, and a hysterectomy is necessary, but her blood pressure is low and due to the three cardiac arrests, she cannot even be moved from the emergency room to the operating room.' They also said, 'There is a high risk of death during transfer, surgery, and after surgery.'"
She added, "If the hospital had closely monitored her condition and sent her to the university hospital earlier, the procedure called embolization could have sufficed. However, xx Women's Hospital delayed for three hours, resulting in a woman in her early 30s undergoing a hysterectomy," and expressed outrage, "Not only that, but the newborn baby had severe bruising on half of its face, which shocked me."
Finally, the author said, "I am so unfairly treated and frustrated that I have to complain," and added, "The attending doctor did not contact us first and now is trying to evade responsibility by saying we should resolve this legally in court," voicing her grievance.
Netizens who read the post expressed outrage, saying, "It is so unfair that only the victims are not receiving proper compensation and measures," "It's a relief she survived. It's so fortunate that her mother is there," and "My heart trembles just reading this."
