[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] AndyForce announced on the 29th that it has launched an antigen rapid diagnostic kit that can determine COVID-19 infection within 15 minutes using saliva.
The existing nasopharyngeal swab method involves inserting a swab into the nose to collect a specimen, which often causes discomfort to the test subject. The saliva test method collects specimens easily by spitting saliva into a plastic tube. Since the saliva test method allows for non-contact specimen collection, it prevents the risk of secondary infection at the testing site in advance and reduces the burden on medical personnel.
With the third COVID-19 pandemic wave, voices calling for the introduction of home diagnostic kits overseas are emerging. The saliva test method is advantageous in terms of safety and is expected to contribute to large-scale diagnostics and effective quarantine measures amid increasing test demand and difficulties in specimen collection.
As the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide has surpassed 100 million, the expanding trend of saliva testing, which can resolve difficulties caused by the surge in testing volume, is expected to continue.
An AndyForce official stated, "With the launch of the kit, we plan to further expand our COVID-19 diagnostic portfolio by applying the saliva test method to our existing product line," and added, "Demand is expected to increase as countries around the world move to expand highly accurate saliva testing."
