Jeju MICE Industry in 2021, Focus on 3 Major Strategies and 15 Key Initiatives Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Government Complex

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 28th that it plans to promote the activation plan of Jeju MICE industry by preparing three major strategies and 15 promotion tasks this year to cope with the current era situation such as COVID-19.

Jeju Province set the policy goal of ‘Creating a Safe and Sustainable Jeju MICE Environment’ with three major strategies: ① Strengthening support for the MICE industry ② Creating a smart & safe environment ③ Enhancing MICE competitiveness, and prepared ‘15 promotion tasks’ accordingly, investing a total budget of 17.1 billion KRW.

To strengthen support for the domestic MICE industry in preparation for the post-COVID era, six tasks will be promoted, including IT technology support according to changes in the MICE environment, discovering MICE specialized products, marketing support for Jeju Unique Venues selected in 2020, and discovering and supporting exhibitions and specialized convention events.

Next, to create a smart and safe MICE environment, four tasks will be carried out, such as supporting the industry's COVID-19 response quarantine activities, improving facilities of convention centers including building smart MICE venues, advancing MICE data, and creating an environment for holding non-face-to-face video conferences.

Furthermore, to strengthen the competitiveness of the MICE industry and expand multipurpose infrastructure facilities, five tasks will be promoted, including training MICE professionals, improving management of key indicators such as MICE customer satisfaction analysis, and expanding collaboration for attracting large international events.

Kim Jae-woong, Director of the Tourism Bureau of Jeju Province, stated, “We will do our best to ensure that the Jeju MICE industry can normalize as soon as possible by closely cooperating with related organizations such as the Convention Bureau and Convention Center and listening to the voices of the related industry.”

Meanwhile, in 2020, despite the stagnation of Jeju's tourism industry due to COVID-19, Jeju achieved the accomplishment of attracting 94 domestic and international MICE events and was selected as the ‘Best MICE Destination in Asia’ by the international MICE travel magazine ‘Business Destinations.’
