[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Shinhan Financial Investment announced on the 28th that the sales volume of overseas stock Stakcons surpassed 4,000 units in just 4 weeks.
Shinhan Financial Investment's overseas stock Stakcons, which can be purchased through KakaoTalk Gift, consist of four types: Starbucks 4,100 KRW voucher, Netflix 12,000 KRW voucher, Apple 25,000 KRW voucher, and Tesla 30,000 KRW voucher. Customers can purchase the mentioned stocks or other desired stocks (within fractional share eligible stocks) equivalent to the Stakcon amount.
Among customers who directly used Stakcons, 78% were in their 20s and 30s (38% in their 20s, 40% in their 30s), representing the largest proportion. This is analyzed to be due to high interest in overseas stocks and easy accessibility to the Kakao Gift platform. The gender ratio of users was similar, with males at 53% and females at 47%.
Purchasing volume increased on Fridays before weekends or the day before holidays compared to weekdays. This suggests that customers bought overseas stocks more leisurely on weekend evenings than during busy weekdays. Among the four types of Stakcons, the most popular was the Tesla 30,000 KRW voucher, accounting for 32% of total sales.
The stock most frequently purchased with gifted Stakcons was Tesla. Following Tesla, Apple, Starbucks, and Netflix were the main stocks bought. Additionally, stocks that consistently pay dividends such as AT&T and Realty Income, environmentally friendly stocks benefiting from U.S. President Biden like First Solar, and COVID-19 vaccine beneficiary Pfizer were also popular.
Shinhan Financial Investment stated, “By selling Stakcons on the easily accessible Kakao Gift platform, consumer opportunities for small investments are expanding, and interest in overseas investment is expected to increase.” They added, “We plan to analyze products that suit consumer preferences and develop a more diverse lineup of amounts and stock options in the future.”
