Concerns Over Cluster Infection Trigger at a Large Church in Gwangju Area... Cumulative Confirmed Cases Reach 14

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] As 115 people have tested positive for COVID-19 at Gwangju TCS International School in two days, confirmed cases are also occurring consecutively at large churches in the Gwangju area, raising concerns about another cluster infection.

According to the Gwangju Metropolitan City quarantine authorities on the 27th, 14 members of Gwangju Antioch Church have been confirmed positive so far.

Including the associate pastor related to Gwangju TCS International School (Gwangju case number 1652), the total rises to 15.

The first confirmed case is estimated to be case number 1516, confirmed on the 25th. The infection route of case 1516 has not yet been identified, so the confirmed cases among Antioch Church members are currently classified as 'related to case 1516.'

Antioch Church is a large church with about 2,000 members, and more than 500 people attended the in-person worship service on the 24th, leading quarantine authorities to worry about additional large-scale cluster infections.

The Antioch Church requested the quarantine authorities to set up a temporary screening clinic for testing its members, and accordingly, testing is expected to take place on the morning of the 28th.
