Gurye-gun Invests 280 Million KRW in Three Hanwoo Improvement Projects

Hanwoo Registration, Hanwoo Specialized Breeding, Support for Ultrasound Meat Quality and Pregnancy Diagnosis Devices

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] On the 27th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has established and will promote a Hanwoo improvement project plan to raise Hanwoo cattle with excellent genetic ability and contribute to increasing the income of livestock farmers.

The Hanwoo improvement project to be implemented this time will be led by Gurye-gun in cooperation with the Gurye-gun branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and the Gurye Livestock Cooperative, with the Gurye Livestock Cooperative entrusted to carry out the project.

This project includes ▲ Hanwoo registration project ▲ Hanwoo specialized breeding project ▲ support project for ultrasound meat quality and pregnancy diagnosis devices, with a total project cost of 280 million KRW.

Hanwoo farmers will inseminate mother cows with high-quality semen supported by the Hanwoo specialized breeding project and report the information of the calves born to the Gurye Livestock Cooperative. The Gurye Livestock Cooperative will request evaluation and assessment from the Korea Animal Improvement Association and register and manage Hanwoo cattle that meet the registration standards.

In addition, by using ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis devices and ultrasound meat quality diagnosis devices, the pregnancy status of inseminated mother cows will be diagnosed early, and information will be provided to farmers to select and raise Hanwoo cattle with excellent traits.

County Governor Kim Sun-ho said, “Calves with registered Hanwoo pedigrees are traded at higher prices than ordinary calves in livestock auctions, and there is a significant price difference depending on the meat quality grade (5 levels) of the fattened cattle at shipment.” He added, “Accordingly, we will strive to establish a stable income base for Gurye-gun livestock farmers by promoting the Hanwoo improvement project in the long term and raising Hanwoo cattle with excellent traits.”
