Gokseong-gun Opens Doors to Overseas Markets with Mom's Love-Filled Strawberries

Vietnam Korean Mart Export Stock Sold Out in 3 Days

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, has opened the door to strawberry exports, starting with entry into the Vietnamese market.

According to Gokseong-gun on the 27th, 195 boxes of Gokseong strawberries, each weighing 1.32 kg, were exported to a Korean mart in the Vietnamese market on the 19th.

The strawberries sold out completely within three days, gaining great popularity. As a result, the mart requested Gokseong-gun to continue exporting strawberries regularly.

This year marks the first time that the agricultural corporation Gokseong Melon Co., Ltd. has exported strawberries to Vietnam. Currently, about 10 farms cultivate and manage export strawberries over an area of 4 hectares. They have established a systematic and thorough system including safe strawberry production free from pesticides and strict quality control through joint sorting.

In a situation where domestic and international consumer markets are shrinking due to COVID-19, Gokseong-gun showed considerable expectations for discovering a new Korean mart client in Vietnam. Going forward, they plan to continue expanding fresh strawberry exports by diversifying overseas markets, including targeting Vietnamese marts. They believe these export achievements will contribute to stabilizing the income of strawberry-producing farms.

A county official stated, “We will cooperate with farms to ensure that Gokseong’s premium strawberries can reach the world by supporting export logistics costs and the production of export packaging materials.”
