Monthly Braille Newsletter Published on the 30th... Includes District News and Lifestyle Information... Sent to Visually Impaired Households, Available at District Office and 13 Dong Community Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) will produce the "Gangbuk-gu News," which contains district news and various lifestyle information, in braille starting this year and provide it to visually impaired residents in the area.
This braille newsletter publication is being implemented to enhance the understanding and participation of visually impaired individuals in district affairs and to bridge the information gap between visually impaired and non-disabled residents.
The district plans to extract useful content such as district news and health information from the monthly published "Gangbuk-gu News" and produce and distribute 200 copies of a 40-page braille newsletter every month on the 30th.
Before production, the district surveyed the demand among visually impaired residents with severe disabilities in the area. The braille newsletter will be mailed monthly to visually impaired households that have subscribed.
In addition to visually impaired households in the area, the district will place braille newsletters at the district office, public health center, 13 community service centers, and the district council civil affairs office.
Furthermore, the newsletters will be sent to welfare facilities used by visually impaired individuals within the district, such as the braille library at Hanbit School for the Blind, vocational rehabilitation facilities, and group homes, to help improve their access to information.
Mayor Park Kyum-soo of Gangbuk-gu said, "Through the publication of the braille newsletter, residents with visual impairments will be able to access local issues more conveniently," and added, "We will do our best to diversify the ways we provide district information so that residents do not face any inconvenience in accessing administrative services."
Meanwhile, the district is also operating a "Read-Aloud Newsletter" project that supports audio versions of selected major articles from the "Gangbuk-gu News" for residents who have difficulty subscribing to printed newsletters.
The "Read-Aloud Newsletter" is available on the Gangbuk-gu Internet Broadcasting Station website.
