[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lotte Mart announced on the 27th that it will sell 100 tons of domestic onions at a discount through the 'Let's Do Korea Farm Discount' event from the 28th to the 31st.
The discounted items were selected as major agricultural products whose prices have recently risen, aiming to contribute to stabilizing household living costs. In particular, onions, whose price has more than doubled recently, are representative. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) Agricultural Products Distribution Information site (KAMIS), the average price for 20 kg of onions on the 25th was 38,020 KRW. This is about twice the price from a year ago.
EL Point members who pay with the event card can purchase one bag (2 kg) of onions for around 3,600 KRW, up to two bags per person. The previous price was in the 5,000 KRW range.
The onions sold by Lotte Mart this time were harvested in July last year and maintained freshness through CA storage technology that controls temperature, humidity, and acidity levels suitable for each variety. In addition, about 10 other items such as Jeju tangerines, Sinan sea salt, and potatoes will also be sold at affordable prices.
